Suspicious crypto messages: pause before clicking or transferring

How to check an unexpected approach, a request for a seed phrase or a promise to recover funds, without relying on a logo or username.

An urgent message about a blocked wallet or coins waiting for you does not require an urgent response. The first step is to pause and establish who is contacting you and exactly what they want. A logo, familiar name and screenshot of a balance are not enough to identify the sender.

An unusual request matters more than the design

Bitcoin.org describes impersonation and fake giveaways among scam patterns. Instead of guessing credibility from the message's appearance, focus on the action: are you being asked to transfer money to receive more, disclose secret information or log in through an unsolicited link?

These signs warrant checking, but there is no need to publish an accusation against a person or company based on a single screenshot. You can refrain from acting while checking through a separate, familiar channel.

Reach the official channel yourself

If the message claims to come from a service you use, open the app or address you saved previously. Do not rely on an alternative link offered by the sender for the verification itself. Check whether a corresponding notification appears within the service.

You do not need to disclose a seed phrase, private key or remote access to your computer to ask whether an approach is genuine. The ביטקוין.com editorial team does not request such details and does not recover funds from wallets.

If you have already acted

Keep the message details, the time of the action and transaction IDs without sharing access secrets. Contact the official channels of the services involved and an appropriate party to handle the incident. What to do depends on what was exposed and which product you used; there is no single recovery procedure here.

Be wary, too, of a new approach promising guaranteed recovery for another payment. Such a promise is not proof of recovery capability. The initial aim is to reduce unchecked actions, rather than add a transfer made under pressure.
