ESMA calls for an end to non-MiCA stablecoin services, with a January 2027 transition limit
The European Securities and Markets Authority, ESMA, published an opinion on 8 October 2026 stating that crypto service providers authorised under MiCA should end services involving non-compliant stablecoins for EU clients. It set a deadline to remedy gaps as soon as possible and within three months at most, meaning by 8 January 2027. This is not permission to continue ordinary trading until that date.
